Their defeat to Manchester United was a turning point in their season game and Liverpool is now more than ever determined to outdo their rival team in the 22nd March game to boost chances to be in the top four.
In December Brendan Rodgers’ side had lost by a 3-0 at Old Trafford. However, the team has after that gone almost unbeaten in Premier League matches winning 10 out of their 13 participation in Champions League qualifying games.
Before the two teams’ super clash was held on Sunday 22nd at Anfield, Liverpool was trailing United by two points. The Red Devils were at the fourth place of the ranking. Liverpool midfielder Coutinho stated that his side is determine to overtake Louis van Gaal’s team. The Brazilian player also added that they would be doing everything to gain victory over United.
The Sunday match was indeed an important one for both teams, but more so for Liverpool as they were fighting for the same ranking as United and they had to win at any cost.
Rodgers had changed Liverpool’s team formation to 3-4-3 for the game against Manchester United. The system had failed in their match against United, however it had paid off against other teams with Liverpool reaching the top of this year’s form table.
Coutinho firmly believes that Liverpool has considerably improved with that formation by the week. They have acquired confidence gradually in the new formation. Coutinho has risen as a key figure for Anfield road’s side this season. He has played in 26 out of their 29 league matches.
